I also think that some of the animals they added in 2 were unnecessary and could have been replaced with something cooler. Although there's no box that tells you what things the animal needs ("lion would like more dirt" "there is too much water for lion"), it takes away some of the fun in the challenge of making each animal happy. The dinosaurs look dumb! They look way cooler in zt1. There's no fantasy creatures (no mermaids, no unicorns, no Loch Ness monster). I wish they would have made bigger zoo sizes to play with. Because the animals and objects are so numerous, it's hard to display every animal. The cons: there's no cheat codes (like super croc, Andrew binder, john wheeler, $ trick, mermaid statue in the tank). You can make waterfalls! You can have multiple exhibit entrances. Of course, predators will attack prey if in the same exhibit, but you can put herbivores together. Because the exhibits aren't strict, you can have different species in the same exhibit without the little zookeeper box bitching about a zebra needing more dirt but the wildebeest in the same exhibit doesn't want dirt. There's the scenario mode like in the first, plus a challenge mode where you are given random challenges to win and unlock new items, plus freeform mode with unlimited money (which is nice because you have different difficulty levels, or you can play without worrying about funds). You can find dinosaur fossils to make dinosaurs and train your show animals.
You can place animals without an exhibit containing them (no error message). There's a bigger animal selection with a lot of new animals. Animals are pregnant or lay eggs and have timers so you can prepare for your newest baby, plus it's cool to know which animals are expecting babies instead of randomly have them appear (like in zt1). You can make elevated paths that go over exhibits. your animal has (there's a huge selection). You can customize the type of food and amount of terrain (no "3 squares of grass and 15 squares of gray stone"). The pros: you can add as many trees as you like. So I may be pickier than you about 1 vs 2. I'm the type that does a grid pattern zoo with minimum exhibit space and attempt to display every animal. Oh boy! Something I can contribute a lot to!
